From January 2019, Petzl have discontinued the GRIGRI 2 and replaced it with the new 2019 Petzl GRIGRI. So, what are the differences?
Rope capacity
A better single rope capacity range gives an improved optimal use.
The 2019 GRIGRI (D014BA0x) is compatible with dynamic single ropes 8.5 to 11 mm, optimised for 8.9 to 10.5 mm
The old GRIGRI 2 (D14Bx) was compatible with dynamic single ropes 8.9 to 11 mm, optimised for 9.4 to 10.3 mm
Cam
The improved cam helps to give smoother descents. As a result, they are better controlled and more comfortable.
The rope guide has also been improved, which will help prevent the rope moving outside the guide channel.
