The 2019 Petzl ASAP has been launched from 1st July 2019. In addition, Petzl have also revised their ASAP’SORBER range and introduced the ASAP’AXIS 11mm low-stretch rope.
The new versions look the same. So, what has prompted the changes? The new PPE regulations! These require manufacturers to ensure that their products comply with any change to the Standards. This is the case for EN 353-2 (Guided type fall arresters), which now requires more stringent testing: all fall-arrest devices used with a detachable energy absorber, like the Petzl ASAP, need to pass the tests with or without an energy absorber (impact force < 6 kN). This also led to the development of a rope with an integrated energy absorber on the end that is clipped to the anchor: the ASAP’AXIS (R074DA0X). This is available in 10 m lengths from 10 m to 60 m.
2019 Petzl ASAP (B070AA00)
The most noticeable difference when taking the new 2019 Petzl ASAP out of the box is the missing Petzl OK (M33A TL) karabiner. This will no doubt catch a lot of die hard Petzl users out and the vast majority of the many Petzl UK non-technical resellers.
In addition to the ANSI certified OXAN TLA (M72A TLA), the ANSI certified Bm’D TL (M032AA00) can now be used with the ASAP. Using both is compliant with ANSI Z359.15 certification. The Petzl OK (M33A TL) is still a recommended karabiner for use with the 2019 Petzl ASAP (where ANSI is not a requirement).

New Petzl ASAP’SORBER range
The ASAP’SORBER range is now much easier to understand because all three are certified to EN 355 and ANSI Z359.13.
Certification
CE EN 355, ANSI Z359.13 6 feet
The ASAP’SORBER AXESS remains the only product with a rescue capacity (up to 250 kg). The CAPTIV is no longer delivered with the ASAP’SORBER. Please note: for compliance with ANSI Z359.13, you need to use the CAPTIV.
The old ASAP and current ASAP LOCK (B071BA00) are compatible with the new ASAP’SORBER’s. However, when used together, the system will not be certified.
